I got my first history present from my father, while trying to figure out what jobs I qualified for with my fancy Ivy League degree in American History. “You should open a history store,” he teased. Since then, I’ve had a chip on my shoulder that reminds me to view news and events through a longer than normal focal range.
My career as a social entrepreneur has helped focus my attention on the significant challenges that come from monumental changes, especially those that cause fundamental shifts in human behavior.
Witnessing and participating in the fin de siècle blossoming of Boston’s entrepreneurial ecosystem introduced me to the steady power of technological progress. Several forays into media have taught me to recognize news when I see it.
"It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change."
- Charles Darwin
Last year, humanity took two gigantic leaps forward. The global pandemic that began in 2019 taught us how to communicate remotely, and then in 2022 the idea of place became an afterthought. Moving forward, every company will be forced to deal with hybrid work schedules, and every memorial service will be available over zoom for loved ones to mourn together, wherever they are.
We turned a second historical page at the tail end of 2022, when the technological damn broke between humans and machines. A for-profit entity called OpenAI introduced the first publicly available generative artificial intelligence system.
Generative AI refers to machine learning algorithms that can instantly create language or image-based responses from text, images, code, and other forms of content.
OpenAI’s two main consumer-facing product introductions are:
ChatGPT - Natural Language Chat
Here’s the AI’s own explanation of the importance of itself. This took a blink of an eye to create.
OpenAI's release of ChatGPT was revolutionary because it marked the first time that AI technology had been used to create a system that could generate human-like conversations. ChatGPT used a type of natural language processing known as transformer networks to generate conversations that were more sophisticated than anything that had been seen before. This breakthrough in AI technology was revolutionary because it opened the door to further advancements in natural language processing and other AI-related fields.
The release of ChatGPT proves its significance by its instant entrance into the Zeitgeist of the global intelligentsia.
Here is the last-minute addition of Regenerative AI to the schedule for next week’s World Economic Forum in Davos WE Forum – Regenerative AI article.
